Balcony Beginnings.
Friday, August 26, 2011
After some indecision about whether we should continue on, we decided to stay one more night in Muang Ngoi Neau (Laos). If we had continued we may have never met our now dear friends, Ori and Anat. That night we found ourselves sharing a balcony, their room next to ours. I had no idea at the time that these two would forever have a place in my heart but what I did know was that Ori and Anat were two people worth getting to know.
They ooze wonderfulness. Simple as that.
We found ourselves spending each night chatting about the dreams we'd had the night before, the latest book we were reading, or the movies that were making us think. We talked each night, about religion, life, food, the planet. For the next 3 weeks, this continued. We'd spent each day together exploring new and fascinating places and our evenings eating, drinking, and playing cards.
With Ori and Anat living in Israel and Ben and I in Canada, we didn't know when our paths would cross again and we certainly didn't expect to be seeing one another just a year later. But as life (or luck) would have it, we are now on the same continent. A reunion was in order.
We headed up to Ben's farm, a lovely little northern retreat and true to our fashion, we cracked open the wine and dawned our serious faces for a game of late-night poker.
Anat and Ori:
אנחנו אוהבים אותך.
ההרפתקאות שלנו מאי יחד לא מפסיקים.

Mar, your blog almost made me cry. This was so touching! Be sure that we feel the same. It was a great great reunion! We love you very much and invite you to come and visit Chicago.
Mary, there is a magic to balconies, isn't there? Some of my most blissful moments in life have taken place on balconies... some of the best conversations. Your photos convey the bliss (as do the flowers.) They, like you, always give me hope.
Who is on your right in the fourth (I think) photo?
Anat: We will definitely come and visit. That's without question.
Roxanne: I love balconies, especially while traveling. Not only do the best of conversations occur on them, but balconies are a great place to curl up on a hammock with a book, take pictures, etc. Thanks for your sweet and encouraging words, as always.
Juncle: I can't tell if you are being sarcastic or not!? ;)
It's ME! Laura is on the left. I think I look quite nice, no?
Oh your adventures always stir up a swirl of sparkles that add to my day. How delicious (I love that word, don't I?) to sit and just TALK with others about books, movies, religion, food, life, etc... I miss that. I miss intellectual conversation with a group of friends who can discuss things.
Thank you for sharing. You put a smile on my face knowing that you are having such wonderful times. :) I'm sorry I have been so horrid at catching up on readings.
Oh, this whole post just shines. What an amazing night! And the photos... exceptional. How wild that you almost missed a friendship like this one, but that life had better plans for you all.
This makes me so happy! I can remember so disctinctly the nights where I met people at a level that so rarely finds us in "normal" life. I miss those nights, and am glad you extended yours are long as you could (and re-made them later on!!). Thank you for sharing this, and bringing back such wonderful memories! :)
