Dec 1: One Word
Thursday, December 01, 2011
It's Reverb time and I couldn't be more excited.
2010 was my benchmark year. It kicked a whole lot of ass. The year began with a departure. I was full of fond memories and gratitude as I packed my belongings into boxes and left South Korea, the place I had called home for 2 years. I traversed Asia with my love and my backpack for half the year, taking pictures, living off $20 a day, and exploring new and beautiful countries. As the end of the year drew close, I returned home (after 3 years abroad) to Canada to be reunited with my friends and family. I was heading back to school.
One Word. Encapsulate the year 2011 in one word. Explain why you are choosing that word. Now, imagine it's one year from today, what would you like the word to be that captures 2012 for you?
As 2011 approached I had been home for a few months. I was happy, but there was the inevitable, looming dark days of winter. The long days at school were already beginning to ware on me. Some of my family were dealing with devastating change, and I missed my life abroad.
So, I set out to PARTICIPATE in 2011, and I believe I did. I took some chances and dipped my toes in some new things, places, jobs and a language. But as the year progressed, it became clear that it wasn't enough just to participate.
That is why for 2012 I am setting out with a new intention, a new word: ACCOMPLISH. Not just to participate, to set goals and to achieve. To set out with a mission and discover new joys. I hope that in doing so, 2012 is defined by the following words:
ADVENTURE
LOVE
JOY
TRIUMPH
DELICIOUSNESS
BEAUTY
STORIES
